NOTHING is more devastating than scraping the bottom of your favourite foundation or lip stick. Especially when they cost a small fortune to replace.
Yesterday morning I found myself frantically scooping the last drip of my MAC foundation out with my blending eye-shadow brush. Talk about tough times eh?
But wait, that’s not all – after about ten applications of possibly nothing from my favourite Hypnose mascara, I finally accepted that its time to throw it away. So with a half face of foundation followed by miserable looking lashes, all I could help wonder was which one was more important to splurge on? In my case, and my wallets – neither. So I decided to head down to Boots and see what I could find for half the price and good quality.
Don’t get me wrong, I have shopped plenty of times for cheap brandproducts but once you find your favourite products that’s it – nothing compares. But after the last party-spending month, I think its time to take it down a notch and give some new products a go. A possible New Years Resolution maybe? Era!
Mascara shopping in my opinion can be quite a hit or miss. I mean you can’t really test it can you? After a number of laps around the aisle, I chose Rimmel’s Scandaleyes Mascara and I must say I am very impressed. It gives length, volume and definition and costs less than half the price of my usual budget. Great for using it during the day so I can keep my Hypnose for my nights out.
Then came the dreading foundation search. With over seven different smudges all over my hands, I decided on L’Oreal’s Infallible and no – not just because it has JLO and Beyonce as the models. The coverage is great, colour is perfect and again much more cheaper. My MAC still remains on top but can now be saved and kept for longer.
So I ended up bagging both for the price of what I would spend on just one of my usual products. It made perfect sense – at the time – to keep on looking.
After I stumbled upon Essence that was it, they finished me! I picked up four nail-varnish shades, two eye-pencils and a gloss that was covered by loose change in my wallet. A bargain, and they look great.
And then I thought of my Chloe perfume that is hitting a drought. Maybe I might find something to spare it for longer? Silly question, of course I did! Boots Natural Collection body spray for about 3. I mean come on!
Overall, I bargained for more than I asked for with more money left in my purse. I introduced myself to a wider range of good quality and much cheaper products that are not only good to get you out of a rut but they achieve the same look at an affordable price.
Moral of my story ladies, there is no harm in going for different products, especially when they cost over half the price. Your doing your favourite products a favour by saving them for longer, your bank account a favour by spending less money and yourself a favour by getting you out for a guilty but cheap beauty splurge!
